User Reviews about VuPoint Solutions Digital Film and Slide Converter (FC-C520-VP-BX2)
COMPLAINT: The manual states "the 32MB built-in memory will not be used if the SD card is inserted". I scanned 600 slides and afterwards viewed them on my laptop. This disc was to be a gift for a relative at a family reunion. When he inserted the disc in his laptop, NOTHING. It would not recognize the card on a computer nor on a photo frame. We could only view them when I connected a digital camera to a television. Previously, however, I had viewed the photos successfully on my laptop. After that, it wouldn't recognize it, said it was empty. When I called Vupoint, they had no solution/answer.
I purchased this scanner because I had read that it does not need to be connected to a computer, that 'slides can be scanned directly to a SD card'.
MY COMMENTS / PROBLEMS:
- The spring does not allow the first slide opening in the tray to line up properly. I had to place a mug against the end of the tray to hold in place every single time, over & over & over ......
- Instruction manual is shockingly small and very poorly written!
- Blue horizontal stripe other reviewers have mentioned. It appears on perhaps 30% of my slides. Upon calling VuPoint, the rep claimed it was due to the type of slide, Kodachrome or Ecktachrome, but not why.
- Had expected a higher quality appearing product for the price, was surprised (do realize that nowadays more & more products are made increasingly cheaper). Guess what's inside that matters.
- Process of scanning slides at a time was slow but imagine that it might be the case with most scanners.
- Conflicting reviews(2): one said it could be used with a Mac without any software complications while another review stated the contrary.
Having an unreadable SD card, is it me - or is it the scanner (???) Feel it's the latter so, in view of everything, am being generous with this rating. -- NO PHOTOS after all that!
If you have a lot of slides to convert, this product makes the process easy. Now we have a permanent copy of slides from our early years of marriage and kids! -- Easy to use
There are some glitches in this inexpensive scanner. When scanning dark originals, sometimes a blue line appears in the long direction of the picture. The manual was far from the most complete, but I'm fairly comfortable pushing buttons at random until I learn how they work. It seemed strange to me to be plugging a USB cable into a power brick, but that how it works. It works great with my mac, no additional software needed. As other people have mentioned, it is hard to keep the scanning window dust free. But for the price, it is a great way to get my thousands of slides/negatives digitized. -- Great for the price
Awesome product! Works great, except that the manual was a little ambiguous. But once I figured out how to work it, I loved it. My slides have come to life in my computer, and on my printouts! -- slide and negative converter
